Organizations to Explore

NCBI / PubChem

Publishes searchable chemical structures, deposited substance records and bioassay results through PubChem. The NCBI page distinguishes these resources and offers search and download tools. A database entry does not by itself establish a material’s grade, supplier quality or fitness for pharmaceutical use. PubChem is a service of NCBI within the National Library of Medicine and NIH. Geography: Bethesda, Maryland, United States; online international resource.

Stanford University

Shares laboratory methods through the Chua Lab’s protocols page, including buffer preparation and common stock solutions. This establishes a university laboratory’s use and teaching of biochemical methods. The index has no publication date; linked recipes need their own checks before reuse or inclusion as detailed instructions. Geography: Stanford, California, United States.

IPEC-Americas

Brings together excipient producers, distributors and users to develop guidance and provide education. It publishes excipient guides and runs training and industry meetings. These are industry activities; membership and guidance do not replace a regulator’s decision on a medicine. Geography: United States association; international excipient work.

IPEC Europe

Represents the excipient community and publishes guidance on ingredient quality and qualification. Its current site lists 2026 guide updates and training on good distribution practice. It is an independent regional IPEC association and a member of the international federation; it remains a separate regional association. Geography: Brussels, Belgium; European excipient community.

IPEC India

Brings together companies that make, distribute and use pharmaceutical excipients in India. It develops voluntary guidance and runs training, seminars and conferences. The association describes itself as one of the federation’s independent regional bodies. Geography: India; office in Mumbai.

European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare

Develops international quality standards for medicines and helps organizations apply them. Its work includes the European Pharmacopoeia and cooperation on the quality of health products. EDQM is part of the Council of Europe. This standards role is distinct from the decision to authorize a particular medicine for sale. Geography: Strasbourg, France; European and international standards work.

EXCiPACT

Runs an independent certification scheme for excipient manufacturing, distribution and warehousing. Approved certification bodies conduct the audits under its standards; the site describes a three-year certificate with yearly surveillance. A scheme certificate has a defined scope and is not approval of every product or a medicine marketing authorization. Geography: Brussels, Belgium; international certification scheme.

National Institute of Standards and Technology

Develops measurement methods, reference materials and reference data for biomolecules. Its Biomolecular Measurement Division studies proteins, nucleic acids, peptides, glycans, metabolites and lipids with industry and research partners. This evidence establishes measurement support, not certification of an ingredient supplier or acceptance of every commercial assay. Geography: United States; international research partnerships.

EMBL-EBI / ChEBI

Maintains ChEBI, a reference resource that identifies chemicals and describes how they relate to one another. It covers natural and synthetic molecules and links records to sources. Genome-encoded macromolecules generally fall outside its scope, and records have different curation levels. ChEBI is an EMBL-EBI service, not a separate organization. Geography: EMBL-EBI, United Kingdom; online international resource.

US Food and Drug Administration

Regulates human and veterinary drugs, biological products and other defined product classes in the United States. Its official page links product decisions, laws, recalls and guidance. This broad mandate does not mean that every laboratory chemical, excipient supplier or research product has FDA approval. Geography: United States.

European Medicines Agency

Assesses medicines, coordinates related inspections and monitors safety with national authorities. It also publishes scientific guidance and assessment reports. The European Commission makes the legal decision for centrally authorized medicines; national authorities authorize national products and clinical trials. EMA does not itself grant every European medicine or trial authorization. Geography: European Union; based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Health Canada

Reviews the quality, chemistry and manufacturing evidence for biological drugs through its Biologic and Radiopharmaceutical Drugs Directorate. Its review can include site evaluations and laboratory testing. This evidence concerns the regulated drug and its manufacture; it does not establish approval of every biochemical sold for research. Geography: Canada; directorate in Ottawa, Ontario.

Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency

Regulates medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion in the United Kingdom. Its responsibilities include product quality and safe supply, and its page explains the British Pharmacopoeia’s role in pharmaceutical standards. A regulator’s general mandate is not proof that a particular research reagent or supplier has approval. Geography: United Kingdom.

American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists

Supports pharmaceutical scientists through education, publications, professional exchange and meetings. Its work connects researchers who study drug formulation and development. Its professional role does not imply accreditation of a course or approval of a formulation. Geography: United States association; international professional membership.

Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB

Develops biotechnology and engineering processes for chemistry, health and nutrition and offers analysis and testing. It describes work from laboratory through pilot scale, including chemical and biological processes. It is part of Fraunhofer. Research and pilot services do not establish commercial supply of every biochemical studied. Geography: Germany, including Stuttgart and named branch sites.

University of British Columbia

Teaches laboratory methods that use biochemical reagents and buffers. Its official schedule lists PATH 547 in Vancouver from September to December 2026. The checked 2022 manual includes buffer recipes for the course, but it is an older edition; those recipes should not be assumed to remain in the 2026 course. Geography: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Publishes a biochemical methods lab manual with instructions for preparing stock solutions, buffers and media. Its appendix covers salts, Tris, enzyme solutions and protein work, and explains that buffer choice and conditions matter. The page has no publication date. The evidence establishes a teaching resource, not a current supplier contract or a checked recipe for every research use. Geography: Madison, Wisconsin, United States.

International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering

Offers individual membership, technical guides, training and professional exchange for people who develop and manufacture medicines. Its resources include pharmaceutical engineering, product development and quality. ISPE works through its regional chapters. Membership or a training course does not certify a supplier’s ingredients or replace regulatory requirements. Geography: International association; members and chapters in several regions.

Parenteral Drug Association

Publishes technical reports and provides training on pharmaceutical and biological manufacturing. Its individual members include industry, academic and regulatory professionals. Its Training and Research Institute teaches topics such as filtration and compounding. The institute and regional offices are part of PDA; membership is not regulatory approval. Geography: Headquarters and training in Bethesda, Maryland; offices in Berlin and Singapore.

Centre for Process Innovation

Helps develop and test biochemical production processes. Its services include enzyme selection, reaction-condition studies, analysis and trials at larger scales for chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates. Research support does not establish that a proposed process has reached commercial manufacture or meets every regulatory requirement. Geography: United Kingdom; work with research and industry partners.

National Research Council Canada

Studies cell culture media, feeding methods and purification for biological products. Its Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre develops processes at laboratory and pilot scales and helps transfer them to manufacturing. The page distinguishes research work from making clinical trial material. The named centers and pilot facilities form part of NRC. Geography: Canada.
